CHAPTER 2
"Ehm..... F-Flowey?" Copper said, stifling a snicker. Said Flowey's patience began to wear thin.
"Y'know, it's rude to laugh at someone else's name, COPPER." He said with a passive-aggressive smirk.
"N-no, no, it's a nice name! I am not one to judge..!" Copper uttered, continuing to try and hold back their laughter.
"It's just, uhmm, interesting! Yeah, interesting. And interesting's a good thing!"
Flowey gave this giggling human a deep, sarcastic chuckle. "Well, if that's what you wanna call it... Anyways, I'm assuming that you're new to the underground, right?"
Copper finally managed to stop themself, and answered, "Yep, I just came here to see what it was like down here." Flowey's petals rustled in surprise.
"Sooo... you basically jumped a hundred-something feet down..." He paused, thinking about the whole thing. "Just to see what's in this place?"
-
Copper's bronze skin flushed a shade. "I mean, when you put it that way, doing that sounds kinda dumb."
The flower sighed, this time out of frustration. "It IS dumb. You could've died if you did that."
Copper stuttered, "Now, to be fair, I did know that these golden flowers here can act as a cushion. The risk came from how much it could cushion...
And hey, I turned out fine, so why worry?" Flowey sighed. "Whatever you say." Copper stood straight up, eyeing the side of the doorway to where Flowey was.
"So, is that over there where the rest of the Underground'll be?" They asked. "Oh, yeah. Just be careful, though. You have no idea what can happen down here."
The flower answered as Copper walked down the hallway, preparing to enter the next room. "Ah, don't worry about me! I'll be fine; I've been through worse."
The human then faded out of sight as they left.
-
Flowey stayed where he was. "Well, they're certainly gonna have a good time down here." He thought to himself.
"Probably gonna end up a corpse halfway through the Ruins." He felt a sense of smug satisfaction at the thought of that human's recklessness being their downfall.
But, another emotion hit him. "Hold on, should I help them? If they do die, then it'd be my fault for not helping them."
A sense of frustration arose. "Why should I help them? It's not like I care about them, and it's not like anything would happen to me if they died."
But then, that second emotion hit him again. "But, it's just not right to let someone get hurt. Even if I don't care, and even if nothing'll happen if I don't,
it's still good to, y'know, help people..." The golden flower exhaled, and burrowed into the ground, popping up every now and then to figure out where that human was.
He found them in the room with the five buttons on the floor, that switch, and the large set of doors, which were closed shut; the very first puzzle in the Ruins.
Copper was sitting down with a perplexed expression.
-
Said human found their flower acquaintance in the corner of their eye.
"Oh! Hiya, Flowey!" They said, trying not to giggle again. "You mind helping me out with this... thing? I'm stumped."
Flowey sighed once again, trying not to let it go on for too long. "Well, you see that sign over there?" Copper looks at the plaque on the wall, and then back to him.
"Oh yeah, what's the deal with that? I really don't understand it in the slightest." The little golden flower smirked, deciding that if he's going to be helping this human,
he can at least have a little bit of fun while doing it. "Well, the whole point of a puzzle is figuring it out, so I'll just give you a small hint.
You know how it says, 'both not walk the middle road?'" He asked, glancing at the middle two plates in the group of five.
Copper slowly nodded their head, looking around for what Flowey was eyeing. Flowey continued by saying, "Well, it might have something to those buttons."
Copper stood up, pressing those middle two plates. The door did not open. "Wait, it's 'both NOT walk the middle road,' right?"
Flowey impatiently nodded, prompting Copper to step on all the buttons aside from the middle ones, and the doors quickly opened with a thudding sound.
"Ah, thanks Flowey!" They smiled warmly, growing used to his peculiar name. "You're a pretty smart little flower, aren't you?"
-
"Heh, I guess I am." He said with a smile, though he still felt irritated over Copper's... struggling over that puzzle.
However, he couldn't linger on those feelings for long, as the human had already entered the next room, eyeing this one's sign on the wall.
"Strange... Why would it say, 'stay OFF the path?'" Upon hearing this remark, Flowey appeared beside them, noticing that the sign, which usually said, "stay on the path,"
had a bold, red "OFF" painted where the "on" should be. The paint was still wet, with drops of it sliding down and onto the Ruins' violet walls.
"Hm, vandals." Flowey muttered to himself. "It's supposed to say-" There was a loud clicking noise, which he knew came from the spikes that guarded the entrance to the next room.
Surely enough, Copper had already flipped the switches necessary to close said spikes into the ground.
"Wow, you're a quick fella, ain't ya?" He chuckled, mildly impressed by the speed that this human finished the puzzle. "I mean," Copper began to explain.
"I was just pressing the switches that were near me. I was gonna do that third one, but never mind."
-
They passed through the pathway into the next room, which contained a little beige training dummy, stitched together with a plush, clothy material.
"Heh, what's this doing here?" Copper lightly patted the head of the dummy. "Oi, Flowey! How hard do you think I can hit this thing?"
His eyes widened a bit as he heard that from Copper. "Uh, are you sure about that? You could..." Flowey paused. "...damage it if you do that."
The human quickly turned to him with a confused look. "How come? Oh, wait, does this belong to someone?"
But, before he could answer, a white blur lunged towards Copper, and the Ruins turned to black as an orange heart materialized near their chest.
A battle was starting.
